What is the mechanism of action of Indapamide?

A

Inhibits Na+/Cl- cotransport in the DCT (so less Na+ and water reabsorption)

Shouldn’t take in the afternoon (take in the morning) to avoid waking to go to the toilet

What are some important adverse drug reactions of Indapamide?

A
  • Hypokalaemia
  • Hypernatraemia
  • Hyperuricaemia (gout)
  • arrhythmia
  • increased glucose (esp when taken with beta-blockers)
  • increased cholesterol and triglyceride
