A thiazide-like diuretic

What are the common indications for Indapamide?
A
- Hypertension

What is the mechanism of action of Indapamide?
A
Inhibits Na+/Cl- cotransport in the DCT (so less Na+ and water reabsorption)
Shouldn’t take in the afternoon (take in the morning) to avoid waking to go to the toilet

What are some important adverse drug reactions of Indapamide?
A
- Hypokalaemia
- Hypernatraemia
- Hyperuricaemia (gout)
- arrhythmia
- increased glucose (esp when taken with beta-blockers)
- increased cholesterol and triglyceride

What are some important drug-drug interactions of Indapamide?
A
- NSAIDs
* drugs that decrease potassium e.g. loop diuretics - need electrolyte monitoring
