Used when amoxicillin alone isn’t appropriate (with beta-lactamase producing strains)

What is the mechanism of action of Co-Amoxiclav?
A
Amoxicillin interferes with the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall peptidoglycan (bactericidal)
The clavulanic acid used to overcome beta-lactamases

- Diarrhoea
- Nausea and vomiting
- Hypersensitivity
- Skin reactions

What are common drug-drug interactions of Co-Amoxiclav
A
General for penicillins - penicillins increase the effects of warfarin by inhibiting bacteria that synthesise vitamin K in the gut
