Immunosuppressant (disease modifying drug)

What are the common indications for Azathioprine?
A
- SLE and vasculitis - maintenance therapy
- IBD
- Atopic dermatitis
- Bullous skin disease

What is the mechanism of action of Azathioprine?
A
Anti-proliferative
decreases DNA and RNA synthesis (inhibition of de novo purine synthesis)

What are the common adverse reactions of Azathioprine?
A
- Myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression) - monitor FBC
- Increased risk of malignancy (especially if had a transplant)
- Increased risk of infection
- Hepatitis - monitor LFTs

- Other immunosuppressants
