In your role as project manager how do you promote inclusive environments?
I ensure that all projects are designed and built to comply with legislation and seek opportunities to better against the legislation if possible. I also lead in a collaborative manner allowing all parties to input into project related matters.
What is the legal requirement for making a building accessible?
Building Regulations and Equality Act.
Why is it morally important for buildings to be accessible to all?
It is important for people with any limitation to be able to use and enjoy the built environment.
What would you do if a client wanted to take a cost saving as opposed to ensuring their building was accessible?
I would outline the requirement for my client to comply with building regulations relevant to accessibility. I would confer with building control to understand if the proposed change was acceptable from a regulatory decision. I would then allow this to govern the advice i provided to my client.
What are the other key elements of approved document M?
The document focuses on entrances, circulation areas, facilities and sanitary accommodation but also covers detail with respects to entrance and internal doors. Treads to stairs, ramp instead of stairs.
What are the four types of illegal discrimination relevant to the Equality Act 2010.
Direct Discrimination, Indirect Discrimination, Victimisation and Harassment.
How would you test for reasonableness when faced with an obstacle for disabled access?
