immune system Flashcards
1
Q
innate
A
non specific response
- occurs in minutes to hours
- same each time
- fixed and limited
- Barriers, inflammatory response, Innate immune cells, PRR’s, complement system
2
Q
adaptive
A
specific response
- improves(better with each exposure)
- 1st reponse happens in days
- 2nd response is minutes to hours
- T and B cells, antibodies, plasma cells
3
Q
two ways body responds to foreign agent
A
innate(WBC’s)
adaptive(t and b cells,and antibodies)
4
Q
4 signs of inflammation
A
- redness
- swelling
- pain
- heat
5
Q
4 stages of inflammation
A
- Chemical signals released by macrophage and mast cells at injury site cause nearby capillaries to widen and become permeable and allow for blood to bring more leukocytes.
- fluid, antibacterial proteins and clotting elements move from blood to clotting site and CLOTTING BEGINS
- Chemokines released by various kinds of cells attract more phagocyte cells from blood to injury site
- Neutrophils and macrophage phagocytose pathogens and cell debris at site and the tissue heals
