Ida Jean Orlando: Deliberative Nursing Process Theory Flashcards
Developed the Deliberative Nursing Process Theory. She received the Nursing Living Legend award from the Massachusetts Registered Nurse Association.
Ida Jean Orlando
Orlando emphasizes the concept of the word as she focuses on the individuality of each human being and the dynamic nature of nurse-to-patient relationship. Her focus on nursing practice are the individuals who are in need.
Human Being
Replaced by a sense of helplessness as its initiator or trigger of a necessity for nursing. She states that nursing deals with people who need help.
Health
Was disregarded in her theory; it only focuses on the patient’s need and the relationship and actions between the nurse and the patient.
Environment
- Holistic Assessment of patient’s needs
- Laboratory, Physical Assessment, and Health histories
Assessment
- Nurse’s clinical judgement can be confirmed by using risk factors and other related factors
- What to do as a nurse
Diagnosis
- Planning addresses each problem identified in the diagnosis. Each problem is given a goal or outcome wherein each of those are given nursing intervention to help achieve this goal. Through this, the nursing will have a care plan.
- This includes setting goals such as maintained blood pressure or heart rate in which is needed in order to track the progress of the patient towards the goals.
Planning
Beginning the care plan
Implementation
Look at the patient’s progress toward the goals set in the nursing care plan. Changes are made based on how poorly or how well the patient is progressing towards the goal.
Evaluation
1) Action
2) Perception
3) Thought
4) Feeling
5) Reaction
6) Reaction > Explicit
7) Action (repeat process)
Components of the Framework / Model
Helps with communication skills of the nurse (exchange of thoughts, ideas, and feelings). The Nurse is able to know the needs of the patient, and how to aid them (allows them to open up to the professional). While, the patient is able to trust the nurse (make a connection with the nurse, become more open to them).
Implications of the Nursing Theory to Nursing Practice and Nursing Education
This allows the nurses to formulate an effective NCP, and makes it flexible and adaptable to circumstances that may arise. It is important in the participation of patient in the nursing process.
