abortive treatment for migraines
prochoperazine, promethazine for nausea
triptans, excedrin, fioicet for paoin
preventive for migraines
calcium channel blockers, beta blockers, TCAs, antidepressents, antiseziure meds, B2
abrotive treatment for cluster headaches
pure oxygen, triptans
phophylaxis for cluster headaches
verapamil, indomethacin
treatment for rebound headaches
TCAs, slowly withdraw offending meds, or offer detox
suggestive findings of brain tumors
n/v, worsening of headaches with change in body position, abnormal neuro exam, significant change in headache pattern
sx of intracranial hemorrhage
thinderclap headache, decreased conciousness, stiff neck
sx of temporal arteritis
possible headache, jaw and arm claudification, fever, fatigue weight loss, visual loss
diagnostic tests for temporal arteritis
elevated ESR/CRP
termoral artery biopsy
tx for temporal arteritis
steroids
danger signs for headaches
sudden onset worsening pattern awakes from sleep focal neuro sx fever change in mental status/personality neck stiffness less than 5/ over 50 pregancy, HIV hx of cancer
