14
Q

what is renal artery stenosis?

A

narrowing blood flow into kidney -> autoregulation system thinks bp has dropped -> release renin
renin-angiotensin system causes aldosterone release so water and salt retained

A

renal ultrasound
renal angiography
hormone estimations
-cortisone/adrenaline

17
Q

what is the aim of hypertension treatment?

A

BP<120/90 mm Hg

18
Q

what is the treatment of hypertension?

A
modify risk factors
-weight loss
-exercise
single daily drug dose
-thiazide diuretic-bendroflumethiazide
-beta blocker-atenalol
-ca channel antagonist-amlodipine
ace inhibitor-ramipril
19
Q

why is monitoring important?

A
tx need will change over time
esp in elderly
blood biochemistry effects of drugs monitored
-Na/K changes
dehydration
