dystonia: what is it, some examples
sustained but not fixed muscle contraction causing involuntary movements. writers cramp, blepharospasm
hemiballismus: what, lesion
sudden flailing of one arm +/- ipsilateral leg. Contralateral subthalamic nucleus (lacunar stroke)
athetosis: what, lesion
slow, writhing movements (esp in fingers). Basal ganglia (eg. huntingtons)
chorea: what, lesion, meaning
sudden jerky movements. basal ganglia. Dancing
intention tremor
slow, zigzag motion when extending toward a target. cerebellar dysfunction
essential tremor: when do you see it? relieved by?
action tremor. EtOH. Use beta blockers ad primidone
