Treatment of known or suspected cyanide poisoning
Cyanokit’s mechanism of action
Binds with cyanide to from nontoxic cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12), preventing its toxic effects; excreted renally.
Contraindications for Cyanokit
None in the emergency setting
Adverse effects of Cyanokit
Hypertension, allergic reactions, GI Bleeding, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, dyspnea, dizziness, headache, injection site reaction.
Precautions of Cyanokit
Not compatible in the same IV line with many other medications
Dose and admin of Cyanokit in an adult
5 grams IV infusion over 15 minutes at a rate of 15 mL/min. May repeat x1 at the same dose to a maximum of 10 grams
Dose and admin of Cyanokit in a Pediatric Pt
70 mg/kg IV. May be repeated one time at the same dose.
