Drug class of Aspirin
Anti-platelet, anti-inflammatory agent
Indications for Aspirin
Onset of chest pain suggestive of a Myocardial Infarction.
Mechanism of action for Aspirin
Noncompetitive platelet antagonist.
Prevents release of Thromboxane A2 granules
from activated platelets, reducing their ability
to activate further platelets. This reduces
platelet aggregation
Contraindications for Aspirin
Hypersensitivity
Relative contraindication in active ulcer
Disease and asthma
Adverse effects of Aspirin
Bronchospasm, prolonged bleeding, GI
Bleeding, Epigastric distress, N/V,
Heartburn, Reye Syndrome (brain swelling
In kids)
Precautions of Aspirin
Caution in patients allergic to other NSAID’s
Acidic properties may damage stomach lining
Dose and administration of Aspirin in an adult
160 to 325 mg p.o.
Chewing preferred for faster absorption.
NOT RECOMMENDED IN PEDIATRICS
