Human Resources
Refers to actions appropriate to overcome the effects of past or present practices, policies, or other barriers to equal employment opportunity
Affirmative Action
Refers to the right of all individuals to compete on an equal basis for a job with regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or age
Equal Employment Opportunity
Unfavorable, unfair, and/or inequitable treatment of a person or class of persons in comparison to other persons or class of persons based on protected status
Discrimination
Verbal or physical conduct toward an individual because of his/her protected status
Harassment

What are the types of harassment?

Self-referral is not allowed when?
- Department identifies substance abuse problem
- After the employee has been notified to report for random testing
- Post accident
- PM application or reasonable cause case
- Substance abuse is associated with a legal matter
Who is eligible for FMLA?
The employee must be employed full time for at least 12 months
How much FMLA does an employee receive? And how often?
An eligible employee can receive up to 12 weeks off every calendar year starting from January 1 to December 31
What are qualifying reasons to take FMLA?
- Birth of a child
- Severe illness to the employee
- Care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent) that is ill
What is the flow of paperwork for the FMLA request?
- TFD HR submits a request to COT HR Leaves
- COT HR send a FML packet to the employee
- TFD HR can be a liaison between the employee and COT HR
- Employee submits all forms to City HR Leaves
- City HR provides TFD HR notice of FML designation
- TFD HR tracks FML and notifies COT HR when the employee returns to work
How many days a year does the city give for paid military leave?
30 days (or 15 shifts) per military fiscal year Oct-Sep
Can sick leave be used for industrial injuries?
No
What is the maximum time off for an industrial injury?
365 days
