HR Strategic Planning Flashcards
Mission
A mission statement establishes the company’s purpose. It’s a short, simple declaration that likely never changes throughout the life of the company.
E.g., Facebook’s mission statement is “Give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”
Vision
A vision statement describes the future of the company. It evolves over time depending on the shifting strategic focus of a company in response to market drivers.
E.g., Amazon’s 2016 vision statement was “Our vision is to be earth’s most customer-centric company; to build a place where people can come to find and discover anything they might want to buy online.”
Values
An organization’s values are the company’s core beliefs. The Red Cross expresses their values in 5 Cs: compassionate, collaborative, creative, credible and committed. For HR professionals, these values would serve as the benchmark when creating policy that regulates employee expectations

Example of a SMARTER goal: I will grow my consulting business to 300 clients by December 2019 by launching a social media campaign, measuring the campaign’s effectiveness monthly, and making enhancements to the campaign throughout the year.
