Homeostasis Flashcards
definition of Homoestasis
The word homeostasis describes the body’s ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions even though the outside world is constantly changing…..it indicates a dynamic state of equilibrium, or balance in which internal conditions change and vary but always within relatively narrow limit

what is a receptor ?
- biological sensor
- monitors and responds to stimuli cause ny enviromental changes
- sends signals by apparent pathway
what is the control centre ?
- determines a set point that needs to be mantained
- sets paramenterers for the whle system
- anakyses signals from the receptor to see whta action needs to be taken
*
what is the effector ?
- receives information from the control centre by the efferent pathway
- action taken by effector feedback to influenece receptor
what is the effector ?

- action taken by effector feedback to influenece receptor
how do cells get their nutrients and expel their waste ?
By making use of extracellular waste
what is the extra cellular fluid made up of ?
plasma and interstitial fluid
what is the extra cellular fluid made up of ?
plasma and interstitial fluid
what are the 3 types of muscle tissue ?
- Skeletal muscle
- Cardiac muscle
- Smooth muscle
what are the 3 types of muscle tissue ?
- Skeletal muscle
- Cardiac muscle
- Smooth muscle
what are the 4 areas of the nervous system ?
- the brain
- the spinal cord
- nerves involved in muscle contraction and galnd secretion
- Nerves involved in signals that originate from external environment and that regulate some changeable internal factors such as blood pressure
what is an epithelial tissue ?
tissue made up of specialist cells that are good at exchanging materilas and signlas with their extenal environment
