Important arteries branching off the aortic arch include:
The carotid arteries carry blood to the head
The subclavian arteries carry blood to the arms
where is the abdominal aorta located ?
on the left side of the body
where is the abdominal aorta located ?
on the left side of the body
Important arteries branching off the abdominal aorta include:
- The ciliac artery branches into hepatic, gastric and splenic arteries, which carry blood to the liver, stomach and spleen
- The renal arteries carry blood to the kidneys
- The iliac arteries carry blood to the legs (via the femoral arteries)

the largest veins
The venae cava
*All systemic veins carry blood back to the venae cava
*
where does the Superior vena cava carry blood to ?
- Collects blood from upper body and head
- Short vein
*Superior and inferior venae cava connect separately to the right atrium of the heart
*
where does the inferior vena cava carry blood to ?
- Collects blood from lower body
- Long vein
- Located on right side of body
what is the Microvasculature ?
These are the smallest blood vessels and are present within the tissue of internal organs
Capillaries
This is where exchange of gases (oxygen and carbon dioxide) and chemicals takes place between the blood and the interstitial tissue
Arterioles
These are the narrowest type of artery and deliver oxygenated blood to the capillary bed
Venules
These are the narrowest type of vein and receive deoxygenated blood from the capillary bed
what so precapillary sphincters do ?
control the flow of blood from the arteriole into each capillary
