Hmp Pentose Pathway Flashcards
What are the two stages of HMP PATHWAY ?
IR OXIDATIVE (G6P TO RIBULOSE 5P)
REVER NON OXIDATIVE (RIBULOSE 5P TO FRUCTOSE 6 P or GLYCERALDEHYDE 3P)
What are the enzymes involved in hmp shunt ?
Oxidative - G6PD
Non Oxid - Transketolase (2c) and Transaldolase (3c)
Why do Erythrocytes use Glutathione ?
To overcome oxidative damage
What is Transketolase used for?
To asess B1 thiamine level to diagnose BERI BERI
What is the cause of G6PD deficiency ?
(sub African and sub east Asian)
IMPORTANT
Triggered when exposed to oxidant drugs like antimalarial drug and FAVA BEANS
What are the clinical presentation of G6PD deficiency ?
Anemia
Jaundiced sclera
LOW HEMATOCRIT (IMPORTANT)
HIGH SERUM BILURUBIN (IMPORTANT)
HEINZ BODIES (IMPORTANT)
BITE CELLS (IMPORTANT)
