Hematology Flashcards
Why do you do a Reticulocytes count?
To measure a regenerative response
What’s the equation for a corrected white blood count?
Observed WBC count * 100/ 100 + NRBC
What dye do you use for a Reticulocytes count?
Methylene blue
What are the two types of Reticulocytes in cats?
Punctate and aggregate
What are punctate Reticulocytes?
2-8 Basophilic stipples
What is aggregate Reticulocytes?
Basophilic lines , more typical reticulocytes
What cat Reticulocytes do you count?
Aggregate
When will fibrinogen levels increase?
During inflammation
How can you measure fibrinogen levels?
By heating plasma to 56 C
What does heating up fibrinogen do?
Fibrinogen pellets out but other plasma protiens stay suspended
What indicates incompatibility for cross matching?
Agglutination
How many types of blood do cats have?
3
How many types of blood do dogs have?
11
What is an observed Reticulocytes count?
of Reticulocytes / 1000 RBC
What is an absolute Reticulocytes count?
Reticulocytes percent X RBC count (10^6/ul)
What are normal retic counts in dogs and cats?
D60,000 and C<15,000
What are weak retic counts in dogs and cats?
D150,000 and C50,000
What are moderate retic counts in Dogs and cats
D300,000 and cat100,000
What are strong retic counts in dogs and cats?
D750000 and cats >200000
