What is safeguarding and what is it neccessary for?
A
- Safeguarding centres around protecting individuals’ health, well-being and human rights
- It ensures safety and prevents harm, particularly among those who mauy be vulnerable due to age, illness or disability

What is the disclosure and barring service (DBS)?
A
DBS works closely with the police and helps to safeguarde both adults and children from harm by preventing unstable people from working with them by:
* Requests for criminal records & check police records
* Decide whether is appropriate for a person to be placed/removed from barred list
* Placing people on DBS childrens/adults barred list for England

Employer can request a DBS check for roles involving work/volunteer in H&SCare setting

What are the steps of DBS checks?
A
- Employer recieve application from DBS
- Employer gives form to applicant to fill in
- Employer gives completed form to DBS
- DBS sends certificant to applicant, employer sees this
- Employer can check staus of DBS certificate online

What are the 3 types of DBS checks?
A
- Standard: Checks for spent/unspent convitions, cautions, reprimands
- Enhanced: Same as standard as well as information held by local police that is relevant
- Enhanced with check lists: Includeds same as enhanced as well as a check of DBS barred lists
