Health&SocialCare: Unit4- 1.7~ Formation of tissues fluid and lymph Flashcards

1
Q

What is the formation of tissue fluid?

A
  • Known as interstitial fluid surrounding our body cells, providing oxygen, nutrients, removing waste products
  • Formed from plasma whcih leaks out of capillaries to surroudning tissues
  • Process driven by hydrostatic pressure , the force exerted by blood against the walls of capillaries, which is higher at arterial end
  • At arterial end, the pressure is greater casuing fluid to move out of capillaries to surrounding tissues
  • As blood moves along capillary, the hydrostatic pressure decreases
  • Towards the end the osmotic pressure is greater than hydroststic pressure moving fluid back to the capilalry
  • The left over fluid becomes tissue fluid allowing the exchange of gasses and nutrients from cells to blood
