Health&SocialCare: Unit4- 2.1~ Structure of respiratory system Flashcards

1
Q

What is the respiratory system?

Q

What is the function of the trachaea (windpipe)?

A
  • A tube that connects the larynx to the bronchi.
  • Is lined with cilia (tiny hairs) that sweep upwards moving mucus and unwanted particles out of the lung
  • Trachaea splits off to 2 bronchi, which is then split into bronchioles

Q

Explain the process of diffusion?

A

The seperating wall between the alveoli and capillaries is thin, allowing oxygen and Co2 to move across the wall easily

Q

What is the function of the lungs during respiration?

A
  • Located on either side of chest cavity
  • Lung is covered by pleural membrane, providing lubrication to reduce friction between lungs and chest wall
  • Lungs associated with the diaphragm muscle, allowing process of inhalation and exhalation.
