Define Stress
the body’s response to change; a normal reaction to events in your life
Define stressor
anything that causes good or bad stress
Negative effects of stress (or effects of distress)
nervous habits; problem sleeping; problem eating
Effects of positive stress:
motivates you to do your best; makes you more alert; improves concentration
Physical effects of excessive stress:
headaches
digestive problems
high blood pressure
reduces your ability to fight infection (you make yourself sick)
Mental/Emotional effects of excessive stress:
anxiety you become moody you become irritable can interfere with your school work can take away your desire to have fun
Social effects of excessive stress:
might yell at those around them
others withdraw from social contacts
adrenaline
a horomone that is produced in the adrenal glands that gives you extra energy to prepare for fighting or fleeing
negative stressor-
stressor that makes life difficult or effects it in a bad way
healthy lifestyle
getting enough sleep, eating enough, exercising, not doing drugs, alcohol, or tobacco
time management
planning ahead; strategies for using time efficiently
