what is health?
social, mental and physical wellbeing
what is disease?
abnormal conditions that affect an organisms body, organs, tissues or cells
what is communicable disease?
can spread by pathogens that can cause disease
what is a pathogen?
micro-organisms that causes disease
what is non-communicable disease?
a disease that can’t be spread
what are some common ways disease spreads?
sexual contact, vectors, air, water, touch and fluids
what are causes of pathogens/diseases?
bacteria, fungi, protist and virus
what is the immune system made up of that helps with fighting off pathogens?
white blood cell
what do white blood cells contain?
phagocytes and lymphocytes
what do phagocytes do?
engulf and surrounds pathogens in the blood
what do lymphocytes?
recognise proteins on the surface of pathogens called antigens and produce antibodies
what is WHO?
world health organisation
