factors that affect photosynthesis Flashcards
what is the rate of reaction?
the measure of the change in concentration of the reactions or the change in concentration of the products per unit time
what are the effects of temperature on photosynthesis?
as temperature increases, the number of collisions increases, therefore the rate of photosynthesis increases. however at high temperatures, enzymes will denature and decrease the rate of photosynthesis
what are the effects of light intensity on photosynthesis?
as you rise from low light intensity to high light intensity, the rate of photosynthesis will increase as there is more light to drive the reactions of photosynthesis
what are the effects of carbon dioxide on photosynthesis?
as carbon dioxide is increased so does the rate of photosynthesis until limited by another factor
why is the rate of photosynthesis inversely proportional to the distance of a light source
as the distance away from a light source increases, light energy becomes spread over a wider area
what does a limiting factor mean?
anything short in supply that prevents photosynthesis from occurring at its maximum rate
