HC 2: Leader Traits Flashcards
Collective Leadership and Attributes
Dynamic, interactive influence process among individuals in groups for which the objective is to lead one another to the achievement of group or organizational goals or both.
[In such groups], leadership is broadly distributed among a set of individuals instead of centralized in [the] hands of a single individual who acts in the role of a superior”
Because shared leadership derives from team members’ interactions, it is an emergent property of the team
Collective Leadership and Attributes: 3 options
- All leadership functions are shared among all team members
- Different members have responsibility for different leadership functions; or
- Members rotate into and out of the leader role and, when in that role, have primary responsibility for leadership functions
Collective leadership offers a different perspective of leader attributes.
Such leadership should emerge from the composition of attributes possessed by individuals sharing leadership functions.
This composition can reflect either attribute similarity or attribute complementarity.
In the former case, individuals sharing leadership possess similar higher levels of particular leader attributes.
Non-linear models
Models where only a moderate amount of a trait is benefitial, either too high or to low are bad for leadership or performance
Multi attribute model
More than one variables which explain the variance in leadership emergence or leadership effectiveness > main effects
Multi stage models
Distale > Proximale > leaderschap
First multi-stage model: Follower behaviour mediates leadership traits and leadership outcomes
Second multi-stage model: Leadership behaviour mediates leadership traits and leadership outcomes
Attribute patterns model
Met interactie.
Interactions of multiple traits to explain leadership outcomes. More than just additive main effects of traits
