16
Q

Name the 5 branches of the facial nerve & what they supply

A

Temporal- supplies eye and forehead

Zygomatic -Supplies the lower part of the eye

Buccal- supplies upper lip

Marginal mandibular- lower lip and chin.

Cervical- supplies platsyma

17
Q

Discuss the two branches of the facial artery supplying the lip?

A

Superior labial branch- which supplies the upper lip.

Inferior labial branch- supplies the lower lip.

18
Q

What do we mean by the anastamosis of the facial artery?

A

The left and right superior labial branch.

AND

The left and right inferior labial branch

Meet end to end.

This is known as an anastomosis.

19
Q

What is the angular artery?

A

This is what we call the facial artery once it reaches the lateral side of the nose.

20
Q

What is the superficial temporal artery?

A

This supplies blood to the side of the head and is the final branch of the external carotid artery.

21
Q

What is the accessory parotid?

A

Lobules of the parotid gland found at the upper edge of the parotid duct.

22
Q

Where does the parotid duct open?

A

In the mouth opposite the upper 2nd molar.

23
Q

Where do you find the parotid lymph nodes?

A

Embedded on the surface of the parotid gland.

24
Q

Discuss the two coverings of the parotid salivary gland

A

We have the true and the false capsules:

(Inner) True capsule-This is fibrous

(Outer) False capsule- A deep layer of fascia- which does not expand meaning swelling of the parotid gland is sore.

25
Q

What 2 branches does the external carotid artery divide into at the angle of the mandible?

A
  • Maxillary artery
  • superficial temporal artery.
26
Q

What structures are found in the parotid gland?

A

Deepest:

External carotid artery

External jugular vein

Facial nerve

Most superficial.
