glycopeptides Flashcards

1
Q

vancomycin mechanism of action

A

binds to the D-ala-D-ala terminus of the nascent peptidoglycan pentapeptide. inhibits transglycosylase preventing the elongation of the peptidoglycan and cross-linking

Q

what are mechanisms of resistance

A

target modification (enterococcus), trapping in the cell wall (staph makes a thicker wall when mutated), VRSA uses a vector to and uses target modification.
