GI-H2-receptor antagonists Flashcards
H2-receptor antagonists indications
heart burn, acid reflux, GORD, peptic ulcer disease
H2-receptor antagonists examples
(-tidine) cimetidine, famotidine
H2-receptor antagonists moa
H2-receptor antagonists reduces the secretion of gastric acid by reversible binding to histamine (H2) receptors, which are found on gastric parietal cells. This process leads to the inhibition of histamine binding to this receptor, causing the reduction of gastric acid secretion.
H2-receptor antagonists side effects
jaundice, fever/chills, hair/skin problems, easy bruising/bleeding, potential increased cancer risk
H2-receptor antagonists cautions
ranitidine increased cancer risk so taken off market
