***The member shall assume responsibility for payment of this examination. The member will be provided with the applicable NFPA 1582 standards (Chapters 5 and 9, Appendix A) so their physician of choice is able to make an informed decision.
What happens if the Health Center Physician and the Member’s Physician disagree on the Active duty status?
A third medical opinion will be obtained from a physician selected by the Health Center Physician and the member’s physician. Independent Medical Examination (IME) cost of this third medical opinion will be shared equally by the Fire Department and member. The three physicians will confer and the consensus medical opinion will be determined. This medical opinion will be based on NFPA 1582 requirements.
In the event the consensus medical opinion is that no life-threatening medical problem exists, the

Return to active duty status
If the consensus medical opinion is, that in fact, the member’s medical problem is life threatening, the consensus medical opinion will be submitted to an advisory panel.
