What is the purpose of the protective footwear General Order (GO)?
To comply with NFPA and ANSI recommendations of safety as it relates to protective footwear.
What is the policy for protective footwear?
All members of GFD shall adhere to the footwear policy while participating in department tasks, activities and physical training.
What is approved for dress shoe?
Black leather shoe or boot with smooth toe, polished.
What is approved for fatigue shoe/station shoe?
All black leather shoe, boot or sport style shoe. If a fabric panel is incorporated into the boot, the boot must meet NFPA 1974 standard for protective footwear for structural firefighting 1992 edition and must be labeled as such inside the boot.
Specifications for fatigue/station shoes are:
Shall meet ANSI Z41 toe impact and compression specifications.
What are the specifications for the athletic shoe?
Shall be appropriate for the type of activity, ensuring a good fit and good support.
When can athletic shoes be worn?
Only during physical training.
What are not to be used for wild land type/urban interface brush calls?
14-inch high structure boots.
When a low quarter boot or shoe is being used as a station shoe, what boot must personnel have on the vehicle for urban interface brush calls?
An 8-inch high, all leather brush boot.
