Peri-Umbilical Region
Where is Visceral Pain in the HIndgut felt?
Suprapubic Region
What is the Perineum?
Thin smooth glistening membrane which lines the inner walls of the abdominal cavity
What are the 2 layers of Peritoneum?
- Parietal Peritoneum
2. Visceral Peritoneum
Describe Parietal Peritoneum
Lines the body wall and is supplied by Somatic Nerves
Describe Visceral Peritoneum
Covers the surface of Internal Organs and is supplied by Autonomic Nerves
Which organs are Intraperitoneal (within the peritoneum)?
- Stomach
- Liver
- Small Intestine
- Spleen
- Gallbladder
Which organs are Retroperitoneal?
- Kidneys
- Oesophagus
- Descending and Ascending Colon
- Duodenum
- Rectum
- Adrenal Glands
- Ureters
Describe the attachments of Greater Omentum
Attaches from Greater Curvature of Stomach and Proximal part of Duodenum, hangs down and folds back up to attach to the anterior surface of Transverse Colon
What ligaments are within Greater Omentum?
- Gastrosplenic
- Gastrocolic
- Gastroduodenal
- Splenorenal
What is the blood supply to Greater Omentum?
Left and Right GastoEpiploic Arteries
What is the Peritoneal Cavity?
The space beginning superiorly at the diaphragm and extending inferiorly into the pelvic cavity
Describe how the Greater Omentum divides the Peritoneal Cavity into 2 parts
- Any area that is external to Greater Omentum is known as Greater Sac
- Area enclosed by Greater Omentum is known as Lesser Sac
What is the Entrance to the Lesser sac?
Epiploic Foramen–> Foramen of Winslow
What are the areas within the Peritoneal Cavity (As divided by the colon)?
- Supracolic area
- Infracolic area
- Paracolic areas (gutters)
What is Morison’s Pouch?
It is the Hepatorenal Pounch, separating the Liver from the Right Kidney
How is the Peritoneal Cavity formed in embryology?
The Gut tube that forms the stomach invaginates into the peritoneal cavity to produce the dorsal mesogastrium
What is mesentery?
It is a double layer of visceral peritoneum connecting an Intraperitoneal organ to the posterior abdominal wall
Describe the rotation of the stomach
- Rotates 90 degrees clockwise
2. Rotates slightly clockwise on anteroposterior axis
Describe Lesser Omentum
It extends from lesser curvature of stomach and first part of duodenum to the inferior surface of liver
What are the attachments of Lesser Omentum?
- Diaphragm
- Fissure for Liagmentum Venous
- Margins of PortaHepatis
- Lesser Curvature of Stomach
- First part of Duodenum
What are the ligaments within Lesser Omentum?
- Hepatogastric
2. Hepatoduodenal
What is in the free edge of the Lesser Omentum?
Portal Triad:
- Common Bile Duct (right)
- Hepatic Artery (left)
- Portal Vein (behind)
What are the Peritoneal Ligaments?
- Splenorenal
- Gastrophrenic
- Gastrosplenic
- Falciform
