an increase in divorce has created more female headed lone parent families which demonstrates the women being the breadwinner proving children with a new role model of a finically independent women. this teaches girls that if they want to achieve this lifestyle they need to receive a good paying job which requires high qualifications.

changes in the economy since 1980 where jobs have changed from secondary to service sector jobs gave girls more opportuties to jobs which previously they didn’t have a chance of achieving, this increases girls motivation to do homework and revision.
