Forces Flashcards
What do we use to represent forces?
Vectors(arrows)
What is as balanced force?
When the forces are equal and opposite
What are unbalanced force?
When forces are not equal
What happens hewn forces are balanced?
Be stationary(not moving) or moving at a constant speed
What happens when the forces are unbalanced?
It can change shape, direction and speed
What is the resultant force?
It is the overall force.
So if a box is pushed down with 50N and it is pushed up at 20N the resultant force would be - 30N down
What is a force
A push
A twist or
A pull
What is Gravity, and how many objects have it.
All objects have Gravity.
It attracts other objects to the center of the Earth.
The bigger the mass the bigger the Gravity.
The further the object is from the gravitational field the less you feel it.
What is weight?
Weight is a force measured in Newtons
Changes depending on Gravity
Weight = Gravity x Mass
What is mass and how do we measure it?
It is the amount of matter in the object(everything from the. Hair to your skin to your muscles ETC…) we measure it in kilograms
Gravity
Gravity pulls things towards a the center of the planet.
What is gravity on Earth?
9.81N per kilo
How to reduce friction?
You use a lubricant such as grease or oil
What is upthrust?
The force from water pushing up against a floating object
How to measure friction?
Pull an object across flat surfaces with a newton meter and record the force.
