Digestive System Flashcards
What is digestion?
Body breakers down the food so that we can take out the nutrients
How many parts does digestion have?
2
What are the two parts?
Breaking down the food mechanically and the second is to break down he food chemically with the help of proteins called enzymes.
Where does the digestion start
It starts in the mouth, in the mouth humans break down the food by chewing (mechanically). And ads amylase to break down startch
What does the oesophagus?
It links the mouth with the stomach.
What is the third step?
It occurs in the stomach, here the food mixes protease enzymes which digest proteins. It also has hydrochloride acid to kill harmful bacteria.
What is the fourth step?
It is create the bile to break down the fat into droplets, this occurs in the liver.
What does the pancreas?
It creates three types of enzymes:to digest proteins, digest carbohydrates and to digest lipids(fats)
What happens in the small intestine?
It adds enzymes in the duoden to further digest proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Food is also absorbed by villus and transported into any needed part.
What happens in the large intestine?
Here, water is absorbed so hat we do to all get shrivelled up.
What happens in the rectum?
It contains any undigested material in form of faces
What does the digestive system?
Breaks down food so that the body can absorb it
How is the villus specialised
It has one cell thick walls so nutrients diffuse easily. It has a large surface area to increase absorption and has and independent capillary network
What does the liver do?
Produces bile that helps absorption and digestion fat and carbohydrate digestion. Also absorbs nutrients from small intestine’s blood
How is it called the movement that moves the food around
Perilstalsis
