Q

What are the problems with surgery technqiue?

A
  1. Reduces amount of fibrous tissue Which reduce height of ridge and therefore reduces stability
  2. Increases denture bulk
    3 traumatic to oateint
  3. Trauma to underlying bone since flabby tissue acted as shock absorber

Q

What is the window technique?

A

This is a mucostatic impression technique

  1. Customised close fitting special tray with window over flabby ridge
  2. Impression in ZnO eugenol or silicone leaving window over flabby ridge
  3. Once this set use a mucostatic impression technqiue to record the flabby ridge area

Q

What is the selective displacement technqiue?

A

Muscodisplacive: displace but not distort flabby ridge

  1. Special tray loaded with impression compound and take impression of the model
  2. Try impression in mouth: should be retentive
  3. Remove and then warm all over except in flabby ridge area
  4. Re take impression: this means that the flabby ridge is displaced as the warm areas sink into the tissue
  5. Can then consider wash impression on top to increase detail
