Q

What is the RPI system?

A

Studies have shown that for free end saddles, if they have occlusal approaching clasp and distal rest seat then this causes more load onto the abutment tooth and little load to mucosa

Thus…

To get a more favourable loading style

  1. Mesial rest
  2. Distal guiding plate
  3. I shaped clasp

Q

Hi does the RPI system work?

A

The minor connector carrying the mesial resin contact the mesio lingual surface of the abutment tooth and together with the distal plate reciprocates the tip of the clasp

Q

What happens to the guide plate when the denture fully seated and during loading?

A

It moves the distal surface of the distal guide plane on the 4 and contacts the lower part of the guide plane

During loading the denture rotates about the a point close to the mesial rest and this means both the plate and I bar move away from the tooth this less stress put onto the tooth
