FIRST AID DECONTAMINATION PROCEDURE

What are the four steps to decontaminate medical equipment.

Answer 1

1. Disassemble the contaminated equipment and do a gross wash with soap and hot water. Scrub all surfaces of the equipment with a scrub brush.
2. Totally immerse (where possible) equipment in a disinfecting solution consisting of 1/4 cup of bleach to 2 1/4 cups of water for a minimum of 10 minutes.
3. Rinse the equipment with clean, hot water.
4. Air dry the equipment before reassembling.

Note: Wear safety glasses and gloves. Wash your hands thoroughly afterward.
