Stages of IVF
The mother is given fertility drugs which contain FSH AND LH . To stimulate the maturation and release of an egg
Eggs are collected by the mother and fertilized by the sperm from the father in the laboratory
The egg develops into an embryo
At the stage when they are still very small clumps of cells one or 2 are inserted into the mothers womb
What does folic stimulating hormone do
Stimulates the maturation of an egg
Released from the pituitary gland
Stimulates the release of oestrogen
Disadvantages of IVF
Low success rate
High number of multiple births can harm the children and the mum
Expensive and can be side effects
Can be stressful and emotional
What does oestrogen do
They are in response to FSH.
they stimulate the lining of the uterus to grow again after menstruation in preparation of pregnancy
Inhibits FSH and stimulates the release of LH
Lutenising hormone
Released by the pituitary gland
Stimulates the release of an egg
Inhibits oestrogen and stimulates the release of progesterone
Progesterone
Released from the ovaries
Maintains the lining of the uterus during the second half of menstrual cycle and during pregnancy
Inhibits FSH AND LH
