Bioenergetics Humans Flashcards
What is respiration
The process of transferring energy from glucose which goes in every cell
How is the energy transferred from the glucose used
Build up larger molecules from smaller ones
Allows muscles to contract
Keep their body temperatures steady and controlle
What is the equation for respiration
Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water
What is aerobic respiration
Respiring when using oxygen
This happens constantly in animals and plants
What is anaerobic respiration
When you start vigorous exercise and your body is unable to supply your body with enough oxygen you start to anaerobically respire .
This causes lactic acids to build up in your muscles causing stiffness
What is oxygen debt
The amount of oxygen your body needs to react with the build up of lactic acid and remove it from your cells
Respiration equation
Glucose +oxygen = carbon dioxide +water
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H2O
Equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose = lactic acid
