Feedback Flashcards
What is intrinsic feedback?
In the form of a sensory FB
Received via internal proprioceptors and kinaesthesis is involved
What is extrinsic feedback?
From external sources
Supplements sensory FB
Also known as augmented FB
What is positive feedback?
Given externally by teacher or coach in the form of praise
What is negative feedback?
Relieved when the movement is incorrect. It can be intrinsic or extrinsic
What is terminal feedback?
Received after the movement has been completed and is extrinsic
What is concurrent feedback?
Feedback given during a performance
What is knowledge of results?
Concerns the result or outcome of the movement and us extrinsic
What is knowledge of performance?
Concerns the quality of the movement. Can be internal
Why is feedback so important?
Improves confidence Improves motivation Is essential to learning as it detects errors Drive reduction is prevented Reinforces correct performance
When is feedback most effective?
Following the completion of a set goal
Advantages of positive reinforcement
Reinforces learning and strengthened the S-R bond
Motivates cognitive and associative learners
Negatives of positive reinforcement
PF should clearly indicate parts of the skill that were performed correctly
Positives of negative feedback
Beneficial to expert performers
Negatives of negative feedback
Demotivates cog give and associative learners
Should not be criticism
Advantages of extensive feedback
Receive via sensual and auditory senses
Negatives of extrinsic feedback
Learners can become dependent on EF
Doesn’t encourage development of kinaesthesis
What are the positives of intrinsic feedback?
Autonomous performers use this to aid fluency and timing
What are the negatives of intrinsic feedback?
Unsuitable for associative and cognitive learners who are dependant on extrinsic feedback
Advantages of terminal feedback
Can be given immediately whilst performance is still fresh in the performers mind
Negatives of terminal feedback
Needs to be given as soon as the performer is finished
Advantages of concurrent feedback
Can be intrinsic
Can be extrinsic in the form of verbal guidance
Good for continuous skills
Allows for quick corrections
Negatives of concurrent feedback
Can be distracting to the performer if used incorrectly
Positives of knowledge of performance
Can be internal and external
Can be motivational
Negatives of knowledge of performance
Can only be used by autonomous performers
Can demotivated if used incorrectly
Positives of knowledge of results
Essential in learning skills and cognitive stage of learning
Can be positive and negative
Negatives of knowledge of results
Can demotivate if used correctly
