Feedback Flashcards
Define Feedback?
Information received by a performer both during and after a skill has been performed.
Define Internal Feedback? 2+ , 2-
Information revived from within.
A physical feel takes place as the movement is performed. +Instant and can be corrected immediately +Don’t need to rely on others + Good for experts/ autonomous performers. - Beginners don’t know kinesthesis , may be an inaccurate self-assessment.
What two things does Internal Feedback involve?
Proprioception- feeling and knowledge within muscles.
Kinesthesis- the sensation that is stimulated as you correctly perform a movement. eg: you feel you have hit the ball with the correct part of your foot.
Define Extrinsic Feedback? 2+ 2-
Information received from an external source.
Can be revived through VISUAL ( shown by coach how to do it correctly) or AUDITORY systems. eg: coach tells netballer to keep their arms in as they pass the ball. + not rushed, can observe first, motivates performers, useful for cognitive learners.- Doesn’t develop kinaesthetic feel, can become too dependant.
Define Positive Feedback? 2+ 2-
Information that is received when the movement is correct.
Should clearly indicate what was done well. Can be INTRINSIC OR EXTRINSIC eg: praised by coach for showing the correct tennis technique. + Strengthens S-R bond, +reinforces, builds confidence and motivation , +good for beginners - Not effective if unspecific - if over used can become devalued.
Define Negative Feedback? 2+ 2-
Information received when the movement is incorrect. Shouldn’t be a criticism but instead show how to improve. INTRINSIC OR EXTRINSTIC eg: the swimmer feels themselves hit the water wrong and tells themselves to correct the angle. + Can increase determination, clear areas to improvement , Useful for associative performers, +helps to “fine tune” - can lower confidence - can demotivate -not beginners.
Knowledge of Performance (KP) 2+ 2-
Information that concerns the quality of a movement/performance. CAN BE I, E, P, or N. eg: the coach tells the performer he needs to change the finishing direction of his push pass in hockey. + can refine motor skills + increases motivation. - if inaccurate can decrease performance -can overload if not given gradually.
Knowledge of Results (KP) 2+ 2-
Information concerning the score/outcome of a movement/ performance. EXTRINSIC and can be P or N. The footballer sees the score board increase by one as he scores the goal. +Good for experts and beginners, +increases motivation +satisfaction if correct will strengthen SR bond - if loose can de-motive and decrease confidence, can be too statistics based, can strengthen incorrect SR bond.
