factors effecting enzyme controlled reactionbs Flashcards
how do u measure initial rate of reaction
-using a tangent drawn where the line starts to increase
at what point do scientists measure the rate of reaction
-at the start
-before any factors have had time to change
In a graph of amount of substrate against rate of reaction, what is the limiting factor up until the plateau
-substrate concentration
-after, sc is no longer limiting factor because all enzymes present are working at maximum rate
what is directly proportional on a rate of reaction/amount of substrate graph and why
-amount of substrate added and rate of reaction
-for every substrate you add, there are enzymes for it to bind to
why is there an extreme but equal drop either side of optimum on a rate of reaction/ pH graph
-reducing or increasing pH away from optimum reduces rate of reaction
-because concentration of H+ in solution affects tertiary structure of the enzyme molecule
why does increasing the temp beyond the optimum reduce the rate of reaction
-it breaks the bonds that holds enzymes tertiary structure in place
