Top of the head
POLL
Region between the eyes and ears, supported by the frontal and parietal bones
FOREHEAD
Part of the face supported by the maxillae and nasal bones
MUZZLE
Directly below the interdental space in the mouth
CHIN GROOVE or CURB GROOVE
Is the portion of empty gum line between the front and cheek teeth
INTERDENTAL SPACE
Top line of the neck, a gentle convex curve from the poll to withers
CREST
Top of the shoulder where the neck joins the body
WITHERS
Top of the spinous process of the tallest thoracic vertebrae
LUMP
Point for pulse, lower part of the horse’s neck on both sides; a line of indentation and just above the trachea
JUGULAR GROOVE
This is where the the jugular vein, the carotid artery and the sympathetic nerve trunk are located
JUGULAR GROOVE
The region around the large joint between the humerus and the scapula
SHOULDER
Area under the throat where the head and neck are joined and where the harness throat latch fits
THROAT LATCH
Lumbar region of the back; between the thorax and the pelvis
LOIN
A muscular area and above the base of the tail in the horse
CROUP
Solid part of a horse’s tail
DOCK
The caudal terminal appendage of the vertebral column made up of the coccygeal vertebrae and their attendant tissues
TAIL
Part of the foreleg supported by the radius and ulna, between the elbow and carpus
FOREARM
For ungulates the carpus; also known as the stifle joint or femorotibial joint
KNEE
Flattened oval masses of horn on the medial surface of the forearm and hock of the horse
CHESTNUT
The third metacarpal and metatarsal of the horse; The third and fourth metacarpal and metatarsal in ruminants
CANNON
In ungulates, the segment of the limb between the fetlock and hoof, supported by proximal and middle phalanges
PASTERN
Small mass of horn in a small bunch of hair on the palmar or planter aspects of the fetlock of the horse
ERGOT
In ungulates, the place at the rear of the hoof or claw where horn and skin meet and where the wall or the hoof turns horizontally to become the sole
HEEL
A horseman’s expression for the horse’s trunk; determined largely by the capacity of the chest
BARREL
Homologue to the human knee among quadrupeds; Compose of the femorotibial and femorotibial joints
STIFFLE
The muscular portion of the hindleg between the stifle and hock; muscle involve is the gastrocnemius
GASKIN or SECOND THIGH
Metacarpo-phalangeal and metatarso-phalangeal joint of large animals
FETLOCK
Hair found at the tip of the tail in ruminants
SWITCH
Loose skin under the throat and neck which may be pendulous in some breed of cattle
DEWLAP
A mass of connective tissue and fat covering the anterior part of the chest ruminants; lies at the most ventral part of the neck, between the forelegs and covering the anterior part of the sternum
BRISKET
Circumference of the animal’s chest; use to determine the body weight of an animal without scale
HEART GIRTH
A large pendulous organ consisting of two or more mammary glands enclosed in a common envelope (sac) and each provided with a single nipple
UDDER
The posterior ends of the pelvic bones that appear as two raised areas on either side of the tail head
PIN BONE
In goats, have variable location and occurrence, these are fusiform around 4-5cm long, fleshy masses covered with normal skin and suspended usually from the mandibular area, but there are others that are found below the ears

A vascular, red cutaneous structure attached in a sagittal plane to the dorsum of the skull of domestic fowls; consists of a base that is attach to the skull, body which if the central, a backward projecting blade and upward protecting points
COMB
A sharp, horn-covered, body projection from the shank of some species of male birds like the male chickens
SPUR
The tibia or shin of birds
SHANK
Also known as the Uropygial Glands; Bilobed oil glands on both sides of the pygostyle of many birds that make their feathers waterproof
PREEN GLAND
Also known as frontal process and nasal comb; a cone shaped mass of red-vascular tissue that lies across the base of the turkey’s beak
