Q

How does deamination work?

A

-the liver breaks down amino acids by getting rid of an amino group (NH2) by reacting with (O2) to produce ammonia and carbs
- liver converts ammonia into urea with the addition of CO2

Q

Deamination equations:

A
  1. amino acid + oxygen -(enzymes)-> carbohydrates + ammonia(NH3)
  2. energy + CO2 + ammonia –> urea + H2O

Q

What is the purpose of the skin in the excretory system?

A
  • a duct carries sweat to the surface of the skin or to a hair follicle
  • cells surrounding the galnds contract and squeeze sweat containing NaCl, lactic acid, and urea to the skin surface
