Sacral Plexus
Formed by Ventral Primary rami of Lumbosacral trunk (L4,L5), S1-S4
Exits pelvis through greater sciatic foramen under piriformis m.
Supply muscles & skin of gluteal region, posterior thigh, leg & foot
Splits into anterior (flexor muscles) & posterior (extensor muscles) divisions
Nerves of Anterior division of L4-S4
Tibial n. (Sciatic n. w/ common peroneal), N. to obturator internus, N. to quadratus femoris, pudendal n., N. to levator ani, & part of posterior femoral cutaneous
Nerves of Posterior division of L4-S4
Common peroneal n. (Sciatic n. w/ tibial), Superior gluteal, Inferior gluteal, part of posterior femoral cutaneous, N. to piriformis
Superior gluteal n.
L4-S1
Gluteus medius, gluteus minimus, tensor fasciae latae
Exits pelvis through greater sciatic foramen ABOVE piriformis muscle
Inferior gluteal n.
L5-S2
Gluteus maximus
Sciatic n.
L4-S3 - largest branch
2 nerves: Tibial (anterior division) & Common Peroneal (posterior division)
Posterior femoral cutaneous
S1-S3 - from sacral plexus
Skin of back of thigh & popliteal
Branches: Inferior clunial nn. - skin of upper posterior thigh (inferior gluteal region)
Perineal branches
