Q

Explain why DIC is a diagnosis often included as a differential diagnosis in renal failure patients experiencing coagulopathy.

A

DIC may be triggered by organ failure or shock, MODS due to renal failure often includes anemia, which is also noted in DIC. MODS due to renal failure with coagulopathy may lead to DIC. DIC is ruled out by no schistocyte on PB.
