Acute Post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis Flashcards
Explain why M-proteins contribute to the virulence of Group A beta Streptococci (GAS)
M-proteins on GAS cell wall have anti-phagocytic functions and responsible for virulence of organisms
List four classic presenting symptoms of a patient with acute post streptococcal glomerulonephritis (APSGN)
Edema, hypertension, abdominal pain, flank pain
State three reasons for the decreased incidence of APSGN in developed countries.
Decreasing in US and Europe: Proper hygiene, available antibiotics, rapid GAS tests
Recommend the best course of treatment for a patient given the laboratory results consistent with APSGN
inflammation with corticosteroids
Hypertension with anti-hypertensive drugs
Electrolyte balance
Recall the antibiotic to which 100% of GAS are susceptible
Penicillin

Not sure If we need to know any caz I only see patient results in notes, no smile/wink face anywhere for this lol
