A

S/S: rapid onset, excessive thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, fruity breath

Tx: refer to PCP for blood tests to confirm diagnosis. educate athlete, formulate a plan

type 2 diabetes

A

S/S: gradual onset, excessive thirst, frequent urination, fatigue, blurred vision, slow healing to wounds, weight gain

Tx: refer to PCP for blood tests and confirm diagnosis. educate athlete, formulate a plan

hyperglycemia

A

S/S: blood glucose over 180, weakness, fatigue, polyuria, polydipsia, altered vision, weight loss, dehydration, hyperventilation, hypotension

Tx: administer insulin, if glucose is over 240 then urinalysis for keytones. high keytones= DKA

hypoglycemia

A

S/S: blood glucose less than 70, sweating, palpitation, tachycardia, anxiety, hunger, tremors, confusion, nausea, HA, fatigue

Tx: administer glucose. monitor glucose levels. if it stays under 70, repeat process.
