Endocrine, Paracrine, Autocrine and Inercrine System Flashcards
What are the 3 main routes for receptor based signals
Nervous system
Endocrine system
Locally produced fazcotrs
What are the two main types go hormones
- Enter the cell and bind to intracellular receptors
2. Bind to receptors on plasma membrane
What are the two types of secondary messenger
cAMP
Ca++
What does cAMP do
It increases the activity of enzymes and uses adenyl class to convert ATP into cAMP
What is cholera
Letha disease caused by a bacteria which can cause severe diarrhoea and abdominal cramping.
How does a person become infected with cholera
Cholera toxin enters the gut and binds covertly to the G protein that controls the adenylate class acvtity
This
increases adenyl cyclase activity
Increases cAMP
increases sodium and water into the gut
What is paracrine communication
When a releases a signalling molecule into tis immediate environment
What is autocrine communication
A cell releases a molecule which is bound by its own receptors.
