A

she was catholic even though scotland was now protestant due to the reformation
she spent most of her earlier life in france so was a foreinger in her own country and spoke mainly french

A

she was chased out of scotland by powerful people in her country and omce civil war broke out she was forced to abdicate in favour of her infant son
and elizabeth felt obliged to shelter her beacuse she was family

A

liz is unmarried and has no children and so no direct heir
mary is her 1st cousin so is a tudor and has a claim to the english throne
she would be a popular ruler for angared catholics in england as liz forced people to be protestant and mary already had experience ruling

A

she tried to get her to marry robert dudley who she knew was very laoyal to her so could keep mary in check (but instead she marries darnley to strengthen her claim to the english throne
darney then dies in mysterious cirumstances and then she married the guy who was roumoured to have killed him Bothwell)
she also kept her in captivity in the tower of london and in the various estates of Elizabeth of Shrewsbry

what was the Northan rebellion?

A

happened in 1569 and was the first catholic plot she faced
the plan was to overthrow liz with mary and then for mary to marry Norfolk planed by Westmooreland and Northumberland
4,600 men marched into Norfolk and tore up a prayer book then retreated to london at the sound of Elizabeth’s very strong army

A

babington and six other were executed babington offered liz 1000 pounds for her to pardon him but she refused
mary was also found guiltly but liz inittally refused to execute her
eventually agreed to her execution after william davison who was persuaded by the priviy council gathered her execution papers behind elizabeth’s back elizabethwas furious and sent him to the tower of london
