EKG primer Flashcards
What does a P wave represent? T?QRS?
P: Atrial depolarization
QRS: Ventricle depolarization
T: Ventricle repolarization
What is a Q wave?
downward wave preceding an upward wave
What is a R wave?
Any upward wave
What is a S wave?
Downward wave following an R wave
What is a QS wave?
Downward wave with no upward wave at all.
What is the PR interval?
From beginning of atrial depolarization to beginning of ventricular depolarization
Discuss timing in EKG paper
One small block = .04s
A larger block = .2s
5 large blocks = 1s
What are the limb leads?
I, II, III, aVR, aVL, aVF
What are the precordial leads?
V1 and V2 are right precordial leads
V3, V4 and V5 are left precordial leads
Where is an isoelectric QRS usually found?
V3 and V4
What if an isoelectric QRS is found in V1 or V2?
Its called a rightward rotation or early precordial transition
What if an isoelectric QRS is found in V5 or V6?
Its called a leftward rotation or late precordial transition
Which lead should you measure?
The one with the longest duration
Differentiate a narrow QRS from a wide one.
Narrow: < .12s
Wide: > .12s
What does a first degree AV block look like on an EKG?
- Prolonged PR interval > .2s
2. Narrow QRS
